Law enforcement is reminding snowmobilers of riding rules - WAOW
WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW)-- As trails continue to open up throughout Wisconsin, law enforcement agencies in the Northwoods are already seeing problems.
Following opening weekend, Lincoln County Sheriff's department has already seen a variety of violations.
Recreation Deputy Travis Watruba said some of the offensives they have seen include expired snowmobile registration, expired trail pass and failure to stop at a stop sign.'
"Snowmobiles not staying on the trails that is by far our biggest complaint," Watruba said. "Along with snowmobiles dealing with illegal exhaust."
Tampering with the exhaust pipe can create a loud sound as riders are driving. Something Tim Calhoun, President of the Northwoods Passage snowmobile club says many landowners are not a fan of.
"Yeah, private landowners are getting fed up with some of the situations we are coming across with the off-trail riding and the loud exhausts," Calhoun said.
the Department of Natural Resources has more information on how to stay safe on the trails.
