Law enforcement issues warning of trending “Benadryl Challenge” - KVLY

(CBS News)

HUBBARD COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) - The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a warning after becoming aware of a trending social media challenge specifically targeting teens.

The challenge encourages teens to take Benadryl until they begin to hallucinate. They then post the effects of taking the drug on social media.

Misuse of Benadryl can have short and long-term effects including dehydration, rash, hallucinations, and respiratory issues.

Deputies are encouraging parents to talk to their children about the dangers of engaging in these kinds of challenges on social media platforms.

If you suspect your child or someone you know has overdosed on a harmful drug you should call 911.

You can also contact Poison Control Hotline at 800-222-1222.
