NEW HANOVER & BRUNSWICK COUNTIES, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office confirmed, on Thursday, a series of car break-ins that happened at two county parks, late afternoon on Monday, March 14.

Six cars were broken into at Smith Creek Park and two at Ogden Park. Car thieves are also targeting the city parks and Brunswick County parks.

According to an official with NHCSO, the suspects are using the stolen credit cards that they’re getting from the cars and using them in South Carolina.

All of the cars were secured and locked; however, the victims have been leaving their purses and bags on the front seat, visible.

“Absolutely please do not leave valuables such a handbags, purses, money or unsecured guns in sight in a vehicle,” said a spokesperson for NHCSO.
