Police conducted the School Bus Safety Campaign back in Oct.
Dedicated patrols from 18 law enforcement agencies across the state were on the look out for drivers illegally passing school busses.
This year, they reported 122 traffic stops and 50 citations for illegal passing, along with three misdemeanor arrests.
“Our children are one of our most valuable assets and we want to make sure that they’re being protected and to also make drivers aware that where the school year keeps going, we always talk about the beginning, but people tend to forget as we go through the rest of the year,” said Spl/Lt. Derrick Carroll of Michigan State Police. “It’s important to stop and they need to treat those just like they would a traffic light.”
This is Operation Safe Stop’s second year, and is conducted during National School Bus Safety Week.
