Law enforcement organize motorcade for fallen DPS Special Agent - cbs4local.com

CBS4 — EL PASO, TX (CBS4) -- The body of Special Agent Anthony Salas, 37, was transported from San Antonio to Atlantic Aviation in east El Paso Sunday with members of his family. There, Salas was greeted by dozens of law enforcement officers, family, and friends. He was transported in a procession for roughly 9 miles to the Crestview Funeral Home for a service.
"I am here to pay respect and show support to the fallen first responders," said Matthew Reade.
The precession was originally scheduled for 12 p.m. but later pushed back to 2-230. Spectators were asked to stay near Boeing Drive in order to allow space for the motorcade.
Reade participated in the motorcade. He says first responders and law enforcement are all a big family.
While he did not know Salas, he wanted to show support to his extended family.
“I think it means a lot for them to see that they come out and support their family," added Reade.
Over at the funeral home, Salas was greeted by more El Pasoans who wanted to show their respect.
"If we come together as a community and show support for one another it makes this place a better place," he said.
On Friday around 7:30 p.m, Special Agent Salas was involved in a Single-vehicle crash in Maverick County -- that's roughly 2 hours away from San Antonio.
According to U.S Customs and Border Protection(CBP), at the time of the crash, he was transporting 6 undocumented individuals.
He passed away just after 11 a.m. at the hospital with family members by his side.
He's been an agent with DPS since 2013 but also served as a Trooper with the Texas Highway Patrol, a Special Agent in the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, and served in the United States Marine Corps before joining the department.
