Law enforcement out in force at Mississippi State Fair - WAPT Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. —

If anyone is headed to the Mississippi State Fairgrounds, they can feel secure with the heavy law enforcement presence that is seen.

The Hinds County Sheriff's Office said that they are promoting visibility to influence everyone to be on their best behavior.

"We're shooting for having zero incidents at this fair, and we believe we can accomplish that because the fair has more law enforcement coverage than I've ever seen in my almost 30-year career," said interim Hinds County Sheriff Marshand Crisler.

Sheriff Crisler said this is what the sheriff's office is built for.

Hinds County deputies can be seen both on golf carts and on foot.

With more than 12 officers patrolling the grounds each night, the sheriff's office is working with Jackson police, as well as state Capitol police, to help keep the fair safe.

"We've got extra law enforcement. We've got extra police recruits that they're gonna get trained first hand here at the State Fair," said JPD Chief James Davis.

There is also a command center at one of the entrances that can assist and help with reported incidents as well.
