Law Enforcement Scam on the Rise – NewsRadio 560 KPQ - KPQ

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is letting the public know about a recurring scam that has been on the rise lately.
In each instance, the victim receives a call from someone claiming to be from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asking for personal information or money.
Sheriff Kevin Morris said his office received five such complaints in just one day recently.
“If you get any calls from any professional entity that is asking for money or personal information, do not give the information and then call the professional entity back.” explained Morris, “Whether it be the sheriff’s office or utility district, call them back and let them know that you just received a call.”
Law enforcement will never call you for personal information or money.
The calls in question were reportedly ‘spoofed’, meaning the phone call appeared to be coming from the sheriff’s office’s business phone line.
