The search continues for a person of interest in the double homicide of an Omak couple whose bodies were found Wednesday on property they own near Chesaw in northeast Okanogan County.

The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a man who twice fled from deputies while searchers were trying to locate Dave Covey, 80, and Geralyn Covey, 66.

The sheriff’s office said items belonging to the couple were found inside the cabin where the suspect was seen.

In addition, two of the couple’s dogs came out of the cabin when deputies approached, said Sheriff Tony Hawley.

The deputies were investigating a missing persons report at the time the man ran from them and the bodies had not yet been found, so under Washington’s laws there was not probable cause to pursue or detain the man, the sheriff’s office said.

Hawley said that cabin is on property separate from the Covey’s property.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office released a photo of the apparent crime scene, a 5th-wheel trailer on the Covey’s land.

The man who fled deputies is believed to be armed and dangerous and was last seen wearing an older green camouflage jacket and dark pants.

On Thursday, a video and photos of a man circulated on social media that many were claiming showed the suspect but the sheriff’s office said the man in the images is not the man they are seeking.

“The individual who is in images and videos being posted by those not associated with the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office is NOT a person of interest in the homicide investigation, the sheriff’s office said. “That situation has been reported to the Sheriff’s Office and is a separate investigation.”

The cause of death for the Coveys has not yet been released as the sheriff’s office awaits autopsy results.

Hawley said this afternoon he hopes to release more information soon.
