Law enforcement testimony expected Friday in murder trial of Joseph Elledge - ABC17News.com
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police officers who investigated the Joseph Elledge case are expected to testify Friday.
The murder trial is entering its 5th day nearly two years after Joseph Elledge was accused of murdering his wife Mengqi Ji. Thursday ended with a 311 call Elledge made on Oct. 10, 2019, to report Ji missing.
According to crews in the courtroom, Elledge was heard on the call saying he hadn't seen Mengqi Ji since the night of Oct. 8 and that she left her keys.
Dispatch was heard asking Elledge to write down information about the places she frequents.
At the trial Friday, testimony is expected to continue from law enforcement officers.
On Thursday, FBI Special Agent Michael Easter discussed cell phone records showing Elledge's location.
Easter said Elledge's phone left his apartment at 10:52 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2019. The phone was later located in the area of Rock Bridge State Park from 11:18 a.m. until 11:48 a.m.
A cell phone tower then was unable to locate the phone until 3:32 p.m. The phone was once again seen near Elledge's apartment.
Former Columbia Police Department Detective Alan Mitchell also took the witness stand to talk about the evidence found.
The prosecution questioned the detective about a notebook found in Elledge's backpack that had detailed notes from the day Ji went missing. Elledge wrote about how worried he was about Ji.
The notes laid out a timeline of events from the morning Ji went missing then continuing throughout the day.
Elledge also took notes on how to act in front of the media. Mitchell told the defense he didn't know who wrote the note or when it was written.
