Law Enforcement Torch Run Will Kick Off The Chattanooga Spring Games April 30 - The Chattanoogan

After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, Special Olympics announces athletes from the Chattanooga area will return to the field to compete in the 2022 Track & Field Spring Games. The event will kick off with the Law Enforcement Torch Run starting at 7:30 a.m. from the Chattanooga Police Department. Members of local law enforcement agencies will carry the “Flame of Hope” from Chattanooga Police Department to Hixson High School.

The Opening Ceremony for the Spring Games will begin at 10 a.m.

on the football field at Hixson High School, where the Guardians of the Flame will carry the torch, meet up with two local athletes going to the Special Olympics athletes going to USA Games this Summer in Orlando and light the cauldron to announce the Spring Games officially open. Following the opening ceremony, athletes from Bledsoe, Bradley, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea and Sequatchie Counties will compete.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Tennessee is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, more than 100,000 law enforcement members carry the Flame of Hope, symbolizing "courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe."
