Law enforcement warn of counterfeit pills - 13WHAM-TV

(WTVC/WHAM) Law enforcement agencies across the nation are warning about counterfeit pills that in some cases they are laced with fentanyl and are proving deadly.
For mom Deborah Clark the grief over the loss of her son has not faded three years after his death.
"All I remember is saying no, no,” said Clark.
Her son Timothy overdosed on a counterfeit pill laced with fentanyl. Last year the Justice Department warned of a significant surge in counterfeit pills across the country. Similar warnings have come from local law enforcement in Rochester. Overdose prevention specialists are working to educate people.
"They don't understand the individual mixing that stuff is not a chemist,” said Vanessa Spotts, an overdose prevention specialist.
The DEA says 4 in 10 counterfeit pills contain a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl and that criminal drug networks are working to floods the U.S. with them.
Clark wants other families to know so they don't suffer the same loss.
"They need to realize that they need to be prepared. My family wasn't,” she said.
