When Tanisha Wright arrived at the University of Miami School of Law for her 1L, she saw two groups among the recent college graduates: Those who had been planning to go to law school since high school or earlier and those who hadn’t.

Wright fell into the latter category. Although several law school applications had assured her that prior knowledge of the law was not necessary, Wright found that many of her peers arrived knowing the ins and outs of law school staples like moot court and law review.
