Law & Order Revival Creator Has Spoken To Anthony Anderson About Return - Screen Rant
Anthony Anderson has been approached to return to star in the upcoming revival season of Law & Order. The original Law & Order, which was created by Dick Wolf and followed a team that solved ripped-from-the-headlines murders, began airing in 1990 and ran for 20 seasons. The show was canceled in 2010, but not before launching a half dozen spin-offs. Law & Order: SVU and the new series Law & Order: Organized Crime are currently airing back-to-back on Thursdays, SVU having outlived the original run by a long shot, now entering its 23rd season.
Black-ish's Anthony Anderson joined the cast of the original Law & Order for its 18th season in 2008 and ended up starring in 50 episodes before its cancellation. He played Detective Kevin Bernard, a junior detective for Internal Affairs who arrives to investigate a shooting involving Jesse L. Martin's Ed Green. He eventually joined the show permanently and became partnered with Jeremy Sisto's Detective Cyrus Lupo.

Now that Law & Order has been renewed for a surprise season 21, many original cast members have been approached to reprise their roles. Per Deadline, Anthony Anderson told Rachael Ray that he was indeed one of those approached. Although he can't say anything at this time, he has had "a conversation with Dick Wolf." He followed up by saying, "we’ll see what the future holds." Read the full quote below:
"I did have a conversation with Dick Wolf. I will just say that. So, we’ll see what the future holds."
Anthony Anderson has had a long career, but he's become even more of a hot TV commodity since leaving Law & Order 11 years ago. In addition to his roles on Black-ish and its spinoffs Grown-ish and Mixed-ish, he's starred in Guys with Kids, Scream 4, and Barbershop: The Next Cut. He is also set for a voice role in the upcoming animated reboot The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which just added Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and Tiffany Haddish to its guest cast.
A lot has changed since the original Law & Order went off the air. Anthony Anderson's character is notable for being, along with his partner, the first on the show to kill a suspect in the line of duty. Given the way the political climate around policing has shifted massively in the ensuing decade, it will be interesting to see if the show chooses to continue grappling with that plotline and its fallout. It is currently unknown if Anderson even will return, and if he did what other returning characters he'd be bouncing off of, but the show is clearly making the pre-production rounds so further announcements will likely be made soon.
