Boys’ Indoor Track

Senior Aidan Law claimed first place in the long jump when he competed on behalf of the Haddam-Killingworth boys’ indoor track team at the State Open Championship at Floyd Little Athletic Center on Feb. 19.

Law recorded a distance of 21 feet-3.25 inches on his way to winning the long jump at the State Open. Law defeated runner-up Tyler Turner of St. Paul with his second-place distance of 21 feet-2 inches. Law had previously finished first in the long jump at the Shoreline Conference Championship (20-8.75) and then took fourth place for the event at the Class S State Championship (20-8).

Girls’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ basketball team finished its regular season on a triumphant note by posting a pair of victories during the final week of play. The Cougars earned wins against Morgan and Avon last week to complete the regular season with a record of 6-14. H-K is competing in the Class M State Tournament this week.

H-K posted a 39-37 overtime victory versus Morgan in a road game on Feb. 15. With the game tied 36-36 entering overtime, the Cougars outscored the Huskies by a 3-1 margin in the OT period to walk off the floor with the win.

Junior Kaleigh Bodak scored 14 points for H-K in the contest. Junior captain Julia Favalora had 12 points for the Cougars on the night. Junior Ana Garcia added 8 points for H-K.

The following day, the Cougars hosted Avon for their regular-season finale and won the contest by a 48-38 score.

Boys’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team notched its third win of the season when the Cougars claimed a victory over Coginchaug last week. The Cougars also took a loss to Morgan and have a record of 3-16 heading into their final game of the regular season.

On Feb. 15, H-K took a 52-37 home loss versus Morgan. Sophomore Blake Kamoen scored 12 points for H-K in the game. Junior Tate Callender scored 9 points, while fellow junior Callen Powers had 7 points.

The very next day, the Cougars hosted Coginchaug and notched a 45-39 victory against the Blue Devils. Callender netted 16 points to lift H-K to the win. Senior Lucas Kamoen had 10 points, and Powers added 9 points on the night.

Boys’ Ice HockeyThe Rocky Hill/Middletown/Plainville co-op boys’ ice hockey squad earned a tie and took a loss last week to move to 6-11-1 on the year.

On Feb. 16, the team played Conard to a 0-0 tie in a road game at Veterans Memorial Ice Rink. Then on Feb. 19, the Terriers hosted New Milford and dropped a 3-2 overtime decision against the Green Wave at Champions Skating Center.

Girls’ Gymnastics

One week after winning its second-straight Shoreline Conference title, the H-K/Morgan/Westbrook (H-K/M/W) co-op girls’ gymnastics team competed against three teams in a quad-meet at Polson Middle School in Madison on Feb. 17. H-K/M/W posted a score of 134.05 to defeat two of its three opponents at the meet, earning wins versus Valley Regional (124.05) and Mercy (120.45) and also taking a loss to Hand (139.3).

H-K/M/W will be competing in the Divisional Championships at Jonathan Law High School this weekend.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The H-K/Morgan/Valley co-op boys’ swimming and diving team split a pair of matchups by defeating West Haven and taking a loss to Lyman Hall-Coginchaug last week.

On Feb. 14, the squad claimed a 96-76 road win over West Haven at West Haven High School. Then on Feb. 17, the Cougars hosted Lyman Hall-Coginchaug and lost the contest by a 92-69 score.
