Letters: New abortion law left out important considerations for rest of child's life - The Florida Times-Union
In the April 15 article "Florida abortion ban law signed," Mr. DeSantis was quoted as saying, "We're here today to defend those who can't defend themselves." He is also quoted in the article as saying that the measure provides "the most significant protections for life" in a generation.
House Speaker Chris Sprowls defended the limited exceptions in the new law declaring that, "Every child has a right to life" and they were "blessed to be Floridians" because DeSantis is "the most pro-life governor in America."
The U.S. Constitution says that we are all entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." With this in mind, it's my opinion that Mr. DeSantis and members of the Florida Legislature have left out some very important considerations in passing this law.
Every situation is different, but consider the future life that many of these very fortunate children being saved from abortion will live. Will they all have equal opportunity? Will they all be able to pursue their dreams? Will they experience the freedoms that come with financial security?
I would like to suggest that the legislature add one amendment to this abortion bill — that the members who passed this bill pledge financial support and responsibility to these children so that they can have the same opportunities afforded to all of us in the Constitution.
If the politicians want to control personal lives and personal decisions, they should also take the financial responsibilities that go along with that control. I agree that this is a defense and protection of life; but let's truly defend and protect that child's entire life, not just their birth.

Small steps can help environment
I am a member of the Boy Scouts who has attained the rank of Life Scout and I would like to voice my opinion on the environment.
The environment is suffering due to the catastrophic actions of people, harming animals and destroying many habitats. I believe we could combat this issue by aiding the fight against pollution. We could do this by having all companies switch to more environmentally friendly materials and do away with plastic completely. Another way might be to give people a small reward or other incentive not to litter.
If the environment is not helped it could lead to disastrous consequences. There are over 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean and these microfibers lead to marine life consuming them and causing their deaths. Action must be taken, and these are just a few ideas.
