Letters to the Editor: It's the abortion law that's obscene - Yahoo News
It's Texas' new abortion law
that's obscene – and cruel
It’s so very ironic that Abbott now wants to shield children from obscene content in school books given that the state law he signed to prevent abortions, even in cases of incest or rape, is what is actually so dangerous and harmful to children.
Imagine a pregnant 13-year-old whose father is also the baby’s father. Now, imagine Abbott denying her an abortion. This is not “shielding" and protecting children. This is cruel and, yes, obscene.

It's time for Texas businesses
to step up for a two-party state
Texas business leaders:
I understand why you have supported the party of “business-friendly” conservatives over past decades, most recently Republicans, even if I do not share all your values.
But look at where state government leaders are now. They're nourishing enterprise has taken a back seat to demagoguing transgender kids, and endangering schools. They're trampling on local governments and businesses by blocking them from making rational decisions about masks and vaccine mandates. These leaders are enabling attacks on abortion rights, and sitting by as fascist thugs assault synagogues.
This is not conservatism, scrambling to win the most unhinged voters in Republican primaries, and ignoring the wishes of the majority in both parties. In the 1960s Texas chose business over racist demagogues that won other southern states, and prospered. Now it is necessary for business to step up and help us become a purple, two-party state, for everybody’s benefit.

DeBeauvoir excelled as she
oversaw elections operations
Re: Nov. 12 article, "After 35 years in office, Dana DeBeauvoir stepping down as Travis County clerk."
For years, Dana DeBeauvoir has done an outstanding job of running Travis County elections in spite of huge challenges and changes. She deserves gratitude for her years of public service, and she will be missed.
