LIVE OAK, TEXAS – The holidays are one of the busiest seasons for shoppers and criminals. However, local enforcement agencies want to ensure your possessions are kept safe.

Live Oak, Selma, and Universal City police departments gathered at The Forum Wednesday morning for the 8th annual No Grinch Zone.

The departments coordinated a sketch of the infamous Grinch attempting to steal items from a parked vehicle. In a matter of moments, the green culprit is caught by officers and McGruff the Crime Dog.

Live Oak assistant police chief, Gary Hopper said although it’s a sketch created in good fun, it’s a situation that happens too often.

However, despite the number of vehicle break-ins going down, Hopper said they have not stopped. He said during the holidays vehicle break-ins go up.

Hopper said often times shoppers will leave their items in plain sight and their vehicles unlocked. He encourages people to hide their valuables and double check their vehicles.

Live Oak police have increased the presence of law enforcement officers at shopping centers over the last few years and Hopper said people can expect to see the same.

““We will be increasing especially in the city of Live Oak the enforcement out here and officers out here. We have special assignments just fop their shopping centers to protect our citizens to protect the people that come here and visit our city,” he said.
