Albany-Dougherty county law enforcement are paving the way for youth interested in careers in law enforcement.

Local youth ages 14-20 are able to learn about what it means to truly be in law enforcement through the Public Safety Cadet youth unit.

During the program students train as if they were real cadets.

Captain Ted Thomas is one of the directors of the program.

He says there is a greater benefit students can gain being taught by current law enforcment.

"Hopefully they will develop that love and passion for it and then become law enforcement in the future," said Captain Thomas.

The program allows students to work on character, physical fitness, and learning about Georgia laws.

Current student, Jada Council, says she feels that the program is preparing her for a future career in corrections.

"The program gets you ready for your future. With the PT and all the assignments we do, it gets you ready," says Council.

The Public Safety Cadet Youth unit meets every Monday from 5pm to 8pm.

For families who want more information on how to join you can contact Captain Ted Thomas at [email protected].
