Local Law Enforcement Shop with Kids | News, Sports, Jobs - Wetzel Chronicle
After the Corona Virus causing a year of absence, area Law Enforcement met at the local Walmart for the annual Shop w/ a Cop event. Selected students from Wetzel County were bused in to enjoy Christmas Shopping with a Cop.
Students attending were allotted $250.00 to check off those much wanted items on their Christmas Wish List. Ptlm. Bobbie Dennis with New Martinsville Police Department escorted youngster Kingston Weekley as he picked the perfect gifts. ” I think he has found it all,”Ptlm. Dennis stated, as Kingston continued to load up his cart.
Around the corner Ptlm. Shane Eads and Sgt. Friend Estep both with New Martinsville Police Department were were assisting shoppers Jolene Straight and Aiden Capps place a remote control car and LOL 4 in1 Glamper into their buggies. The children seemed to be having a fun time as they scurried along the isles in search of their favorite things. Shop with a Cop is an annual event where local Law Enforcement team up and take children on a Christmas shopping spree. One child exclaimed as they were pushing his buggie out of the store “I hope I can fit all this on that bus!”
Funding for this event is by donations and is organized behind the scenes all year long to make this event successful each year. Shop with a Cop allows children the opportunity to experience Christmas that they may not otherwise experience, and it also gives children the opportunity to see officers in a positive reflection. The officers want to insure each child and their families experience the joys of the holiday season. Everyone involved, even the Walmart employee’s had smiles from ear to ear. This was a special day providing the community a positive interaction with law enforcement as well as creating special Christmas memories for the children. Special thanks to all who donated through fund raisers, without them it wouldn’t be possible.
