Local law enforcement team up for traffic violation project - Siouxland News
HINTON, Iowa — If you were driving down Highway 75 Thursday afternoon near Hinton, you probably saw several law enforcement officers pulling people over.
This is because they were conducting a Traffic Enforcement Project.
Nearly 10 police, state patrol and sheriffs were covering 5-10 miles of Highway 75 pulling people over for not wearing seat belts, using their phones, and districted driving between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The project was set in place due to the high number of accidents with those violations being the cause.
In 2021, there were 15 total crashes in Plymouth county with injuries.
Iowa State Patrol wants to remind people about safety when driving down major highways.
"What we're trying to accomplish is not citations; it's about education the public is what we're trying to do today," Sergeant Justin Sackett said as the patrol cars went to their designated spots along Highway 75. He continued, "Hopefully by educating them and getting them off the phones and seat belted up, hopefully we're saving lives."
Iowa State Patrol was the lead organization for the project.
Siouxland News will be following up with the project when the data is released to see how many violations were committed on Thursday afternoon.
