Local law firm donating thousands of dollars for Ukrainian relief - KIMA CBS 29

As bombs fly across the country of Ukraine, families are left in shambles, their homes are destroyed and everything they once knew has disappeared. The fight for democracy remains at the forefront of each Ukrainian battling against the disparity that war brings.
It's no secret that the scale of suffering is devastating and as every moment of the brutal war is plastered on television screens, it can become easy to forget the souls behind each gut-wrenching photograph or video, but Abeyta Nelson Injury Law Firm strives to never forget the lives being affected by war every second.
On March 18, the law firm launched a fundraising campaign to benefit the victims of the Ukrainian attacks. Although thousands of miles away division continues to tear Ukraine a part, the law firm seeks to bring unity closer to home. They are requesting donations from individuals in Central Washington to provide food, shelter and emergency medical care for the people of Ukraine. Terry Abeyta, the law firm's founder, said it starts at the humanitarian level.
"We decided to put together this fundraiser so that we could provide some assistance to the people whose lives are being devastated in Ukraine," said Abeyta.
The law firm has pledged $10,000 to the effort and they will match every single dollar that is donated to the 'Save the Ukraine' fund. The firm is hoping to raise more than $10,000 to help the brave people in Ukraine.
"Today we 're all Ukrainians," said Abeyta. "Let's help defend that country and democracy."
All proceeds will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, which has been a world leader in providing humanitarian support for the people of Ukraine. The charitable organization was founded in 1943 and claims to be continuously deploying staff and resources as it responds to the unfolding crisis across Ukraine.
"I think we all share the heartbreak of this tragedy," said Abeyta. "I think it will make every person who contributes feel a little bit better that they've not just watched TV and watched the tragedy unfold, but have actually done something to help these brave and heroic people."
The law firm team does not require a minimum dollar amount. Abeyta urges people to give anything that they can give.
"Every single dollar counts," Abeyta said. "There is no minimum contribution, just help to the extent your personal finances allow you to."
The fundraising campaign will continue until April 4th and people are encouraged to make checks out to 'Catholic Relief Services -Ukraine Relief Activities'.
Donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Abeyta Nelson Injury Law office in Yakima, located at 1102 W. Yakima Avenue, Yakima, WA 98902.
