Lynchburg City Council member asks for law and order due to increased violence - WSET

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Lynchburg City Council members are asking for law and order in the city after an increase in violence.
Lynchburg City Councilman Chris Faraldi says we need to be offering our officers better pay and trying new techniques to curb violence.
Faraldi tweeted that these trends need to stop.
Danville Councilman Lee Vogler responded, offering advice.
Faraldi says he hasn't spoken to Vogler yet but is looking for any and all help to get this community back to being safe.
Vogler says it takes a number of things to change the community culture.
"We need to increase starting pay. We need to seriously address the compression issue in the Lynchburg Police Department and other departments. We need to be getting very competitive when it comes time to recruiting candidates," Faraldi said.
Vogler agrees, "Community policing with the engagement, with getting out into the community, building that trust and relationship with folks and getting back into the neighborhoods and doing these community walks. Just a number of things," Vogler said.
Vogler says that if Lynchburg did that and builds trust, people will start coming forth with information.
