Lynchburg hairstylist in favor of law banning hair discrimination - WSET

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A ban on race-based hair discrimination is now a step closer to becoming a law in the United States.
This is because of the Crown Act which stands for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair."
This act is moving along Congress and recently passed in the House of Representatives.
This would end discrimination against hair at work or school nationwide.

Nubian Citi owner, Tyeast Blanding, said this law is overdue.
She said she had clients who were afraid of not getting a job just because of their hair.
"To discriminate against anyone for their hair is just, it has nothing to do with what they have inside of their brain," she said.
Blanding also said the name of the act is fitting because hair is their crown and glory.
Virginia is one of four states that has banned discrimination based on hair. The Senate is set to vote on this soon.
