Mahoning County law enforcement agencies awarded state grants - MahoningMatters.com

COLUMBUS — Mahoning Valley agencies have been awarded state grants to help support law enforcement efforts.
Gov. Mike DeWine announced that more than $4.8 million in funding in federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants has been awarded to support the Ohio criminal justice system via multijurisdictional drug task forces, school resource officers, drug, veteran and mental health courts, corrections projects and justice technology initiatives.
In total,153 grants were awarded to 140 agencies in 56 counties. The grants are administered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Services.
Here are the grants awarded to Valley agencies and the amounts:
MAHONING COUNTY
- Austintown Police Department, $19,425;
- Boardman Police Department, $17,082;
- Boardman Police Department, $25,983;
- Campbell Police Department, $13,369;
- Jackson Police Department, $11,838;
- Mahoning County Sheriff, $36,000;
- Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, $11,868;
- Milton Township Police Department, $9,750.
TRUMBULL COUNTY
- Cortland Police Department, $8,586;
- Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, $39,678.
COLUMBIANA COUNTY
- Columbiana County Municipal Court, $37,121;
- Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, $29,750;
- East Palestine Police Department, $52,842.
“We are deeply committed to providing resources to keep our communities and citizens safe and to support the important crime-prevention programs operated by local government agencies,” DeWine said in a news release.
The JAG program allows local and state governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on the needs and conditions of the jurisdictions.
“These grants provide our local governments the flexibility to adapt to their local criminal justice system needs,” said Karhlton Moore, OCJS executive director.
The Federal Fiscal Year 2022 competitive grant process solicited grant proposals from state agencies, nonprofit organizations, colleges, universities and other criminal justice-related agencies from throughout the state.
