Man arrested for impersonating law enforcement in Stafford County, deputies say - WJLA
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (7News) — Stafford County deputies say they arrested a man last month who impersonated law enforcement by driving with emergency lights.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 25 at 1:30 p.m., Deputy J.T. Harrod III was off duty, in his personal vehicle, when he witnessed a Dodge Durango run a stop sign at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and State Shop Road.
Harrod says he had to swerve to avoid being hit and noticed the Durango had flashing red and blue emergency lights. The driver of the Durango then promptly turned off the emergency lights and continued north on Jefferson Davis Highway.
When Harrod got a look at the driver, he didn't recognize him as a Stafford County deputy and so after looking up his tag, Harrod learned the vehicle was registered in Caroline County.
The driver was identified as the registered owner, 29-year-old Filiberto Contreras Jr.
Deputies say Contreras also had a suspended driver’s license.
A warrant for reckless driving, driving suspended and impersonating a law enforcement officer were obtained and Caroline County Sheriff’s Office was able to arrest Contreras Friday.
Stafford deputies say "If you want to drive a car with blue lights, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is hiring. Visit staffordsheriff.com to see employment opportunities. Unfortunately for Contreras, state law requires deputies have a valid driver’s license."
