Marshall Fire: Boulder County residents must report lost guns to law enforcement - The Daily Camera
Boulder County residents who lost guns in the Marshall Fire are required by state law to file a report at a law enforcement agency.
The Isabella Joy Thallas Act, enacted in 2021, requires firearm owners to report a lost or stolen firearm to their local law enforcement agency, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Residents do not need to report damaged guns or recovered parts.
To file a report, residents must have the gun’s serial number, the release said. If the number is lost, residents can call the gun shop or Federal Firearm License where it was purchased to get it. Residents can also try contacting any place that serviced the weapon. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives cannot retrieve serial numbers.
Residents in unincorporated Boulder County or Superior must file a report at the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Louisville residents must file a report with the Louisville Police Department.
Boulder County residents can call 303-441-4444, extension three to file the report. It can also be filed online under the “report a crime” tab at BoulderSheriff.com.
Anyone filing a report at the Louisville Police Department must call 303-441-4444, extension two.
