Mary Ann Laws, 92, of Holiday Shores, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at her home with family at her side.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 21, beginning at 10 a.m. at Paynic Home of Funerals in East Alton. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Mrs. Laws was born Feb. 12, 1930, in Hillsboro, to Alexander and Anna (Kubayko) Hamilton. She married Harold H. Laws on June 17, 1950, in Hillsboro, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2006.
She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Missouri Business School.
While he was enrolled in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois, Mrs. Laws was employed as a secretary in the office of the dean of Aeronautical Engineering at the university.
She and her husband had eight children. After they started arriving, she became a stay-at-home mother. Her children were raised in Rosewood Heights.
After her husband retired, they spent their time traveling with winters spent in Florida.
In her younger days, Mrs. Laws was active with bowling in several leagues. She loved flower gardening, sewing, cooking, golf and racquet ball. She was an avid reader and worked crossword puzzles. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
She is survived by two daughters, Claudia Jean (David) Laws-Milford of Holiday Shores and her caretaker for several years, and Dr. Susan Jane (Donna Shepard) Laws of Winchester, TN; four sons, Dr. Michael H. (Anna) Laws of Florissant, MO, Dr. Joseph H. (Mitzi) Laws of Oakland, MO, James E. (Nancy) Laws of Cottage Hills and John D. (Dawn) Laws of Rosewood Heights; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Doris Hamilton of Taylor Springs; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Dressen of Litchfield and Paul R. Baker of Citra, FL.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Laws was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert H. Laws and Harold W. “Bill” Laws; her only brother, Alexander Hamilton; great-grandson, Reef; two nephews, Todd Hamilton of Taylor Springs and Paul Baker; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Dressen and Nancy Baker.
