The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday reached a settlement with Microsoft to resolve allegations that the tech giant discriminated against non-U.S. citizens in its hiring process.

The Justice Department alleged that Microsoft, during a pre-hire screening, required applicants who were legal permanent residents, but not American citizens, to submit “unnecessary, specific immigration documents to prove they could work for the company without needing its sponsorship for work visas.”
