A parolee is back in custody, after he fled Albany County sheriff's deputies at a traffic stop in the city -- and crashed into another vehicle.

Nasif Jackson is facing multiple felony charges - for drug possession and assault.

The crash happened around 6:30 Monday evening - and Jackson is set to be arraigned Wednesday morning.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says -- Jackson was found in possession of crack-cocaine, fentanyl and heroin.

He says when Jackson initially fled - he shoved something down his pants - making his deputies think he may have been hiding a weapon.

This arrest is causing friction between law enforcement at the city and county level.

The president of the Albany Police Benevolent Association says he feels the partnership between the two agencies is not safe.

PBA president Michael Delano says this pursuit, and others like it in the past, happen without immediate communication between sheriff's deputies on scene and the city's police officers and detectives.

He says in years past, he's seen joint patrols happen with a more collaborative approach.

He says the other driver involved in the crash yesterday evening was injured.

Sheriff Apple sent us a statement, defending his deputies’ work in the city -- which reads, in part, "our deputies have made an impact in the city. Now is not a time to be territorial, now is a time to protect the city."

We asked about the other driver involved, and he couldn't give us any information about any injury they might have suffered.

Delano said, "I will ask anyone out there who has an issue with our stance. Would you be ok with your sister, brother aunt--being killed in a car accident for a little bit of drugs. I think everybody would say absolutely not.”

Sheriff Apple says he is available to meet with the PBA president, were he to reach out to him.
