Moore & Van Allen tops lists of Charlotte-area law firms - Charlotte Business Journal
The most recent Charlotte Business Journal lists the area’s largest law firms, ranked by number of local attorneys. Moore & Van Allen remains Charlotte’s largest law firm with 339 attorneys in its local office. McGuireWoods is second, with 172 local attorneys.
Charlotte’s largest law firms have continued to add to their headcount. Of the 26 listed firms, 24 have added or retained the same number of lawyers as compared to this time last year. Moore & Van Allen grew by 29 attorneys. Troutman Pepper and Mayer Brown each added more than 10 local attorneys over last year’s list count.

As part of our survey for The List, CBJ asked area law firms how many women they count among their attorney ranks in Charlotte. Moore & Van Allen and McGuireWoods top that list also.
Moore & Van Allen has the most female attorneys in its local office with 115, up from 104 on last year’s list. That number includes 29 partners. When looking at the percentages, 34% of the firm’s local attorneys are women and 18% are partners.
Seventy-one, or 41%, of McGuireWoods' local attorneys are women. That number includes 17 partners.
Sodoma Law, tied for No. 24 on the list of the area’s largest law firms with 23 local attorneys, has the highest percentage of local attorneys who are women among those firms at 78%. James McElroy & Diehl, No. 15 on the list of the area’s largest law firms with 40 local attorneys, has the second-highest percentage of local attorneys who are women among the area’s largest firms. Half of that firm’s attorneys and over a quarter of its partners are women.
