Mosser Appointed To New State Supreme Court Commission on Elder Law - kanecountyconnects.com

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser has been appointed to serve on the new Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Elder Law.

The commission was created based on the Supreme Court’s interest in examining ways that state courts can better serve the needs of those in advancing years.

According to a State’s Attorney’s Office Facebook post, the legal problems facing the aging population, including the bench and bar, extend beyond the court’s role in terms of guardianship to the judicial branch’s obligation to protect the legal rights of vulnerable populations. The increasing volume of illegal and fraudulent activities directed at the elderly further confirm this need.

“Your reputation and expertise in issues associated with elder law is well respected and highly regarded by your peers and by the Supreme Court,” Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne Burke wrote in a letter to SA Mosser informing her of the appointment.

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Robert L. Carter was appointed to serve as the Supreme Court liaison for the commission, and Chicago lawyer and elder law expert Kerry Peck will serve as the commission chairman. Nathan Jensen and Scott Block from the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts have been selected as staff.
