LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Most of us dread this time of year – tax season.
It’s time to gather up all of those receipts, the W2s, and the other forms you’ll need to figure out whether or not Uncle Sam is giving you any money back.
It can be a daunting process for some but one local group is offering help to those who need it.
Liberty University’s School of Law is hosting volunteer income tax assistance services for free, as long as you qualify.
If your income has not exceeded $54,000 for you or for both spouses if filing jointly, you may use the free service which is offered from Feb. 15 through March 5 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only at the Liberty Mountain Conference Center in the Candlers Station Shopping Center.
No appointment is necessary. Services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Returns from previous years and international student tax returns cannot be filed.
If filing jointly, both married spouses must be present.
The dates and times of the service are listed below:
- Feb. 15, 22 and March 1: 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Feb. 17, 24 and March 3: 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Feb. 19, 26 and March 5: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you’re planning to use this service, there are several items you will need to bring with you, including:
- Photo ID
- Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents
- Birth dates for your, your spouse and dependents on your tax return
- Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-MISC) from all employers
- Interest and divident statements from banks (Form 1099)
- A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
- Proof of bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit in the form of a blank check
- If applicable, the total paid for daycare and the daycare provider’s tax identifying number (Social Security number or business Employer Identification Number)
- Forms 1095-A, B and C, Health Coverage Statements
- Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable
