New initiative aims to foster conversations between law enforcement, faith leaders - 13WHAM-TV
Rochester, N.Y. — A new partnership between local law enforcement and faith leaders aims to help bolster police-community relations.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the United Christian Leadership Ministry say they’re working together to share information related to law enforcement practices.
The groups say an open discourse will help foster improved relationships between the community and members of law enforcement, and to help both groups work together to help build safer neighborhoods.
"If we are to overcome racial injustice, intransigence, and realize that we share a common goal of establishing justice, realizing equality and bridging the gap to eradicate systemic racism, then we must have an open and honest communication relative to transforming policies and procedures," said Rev. Lewis Stewart of UCLM.
The Sheriff's Office and UCLM plan to meet quarterly to discuss pertinent topics, such as anti-crime measures and police reforms.
