New Iowa law would allow those fired because of vaccine mandates to collect unemployment - WSET

DES MOINES, Iowa (WKRC/CNN Newsource) - A new law in Iowa is putting businesses in a bad spot when it comes to conflict between federal and state vaccine mandates, reports CNN.
Normally in Iowa, a worker cannot collect unemployment if they have been fired. But Gov. Kim Reynolds recently signed a new law that grants benefits to those who were fired because of the federal vaccine mandate.

This new law puts businesses in between it and the Biden Administration's mandate, which requires employees of businesses with 100 or more workers, certain health care workers and federal contractors to either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or tested weekly.
Businesses fund the state's unemployment through a payroll tax, which means they would have to pay more so these fired employees could collect benefits.
"They don't have a choice in the matter. The state has answered a mandate with another mandate that is only putting business owners in between," Denise Hill, an associate professor of employment law at Drake University, told CNN.
