New law makes many surprise medical bills illegal - News3LV

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The No Surprises Act was passed by Congress in 2020 as part of the coronavirus relief package.
It generally bans insurers from passing along bills from doctors and hospitals that are not covered under a patient's plan.
For example - in an emergency, if you’re rushed to a hospital that's not in-network or if you’re at an in-network hospital, but the emergency physicians or anesthesiologists don’t accept your insurance.
Instead, the new law requires health care providers and insurers to work out a deal between themselves.
So, you’re not caught in the middle or left paying out hundreds of dollars.
“This has been a pervasive and abusive billing practice by some providers to take advantage of the situations where the patient has no ability to choose.”
Patients will still be responsible for any deductibles and copays they normally would have to pay under their plan.
But they can only be billed at their plan's in-network rate.
