New Law Stops E-Z Pass from Overcharging Customers - TAPinto.net

TRENTON, NJ – A new law championed by Assemblyman Dan Benson (D-Mercer/Middlsex) to make sure that the thousands of commuters who use E-ZPass toll booths daily are quickly notified of an overcharge or toll fee on their account has been signed into law by Governor Murphy.
“An E-ZPass customer should know immediately if their account is being charged,” said Benson, who serves as chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee. “With this new law, customers will be notified or able to check in real-time to prevent an excessive bill at the end of the month.”
Specifically, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority are now required to install and operate, in each lane of every toll plaza that uses E-ZPass, a device that transmits a notification to a customer with a system account when passing through the toll plaza within 24 hours.
The notification is available as a push notification through the NJ E-ZPass App.
The notification may occur by electronic mail, a text message sent directly to a customer’s mobile device, or through a mobile application. The law requires the installation and operation of devices at toll plazas on the State’s three toll roads, the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, and the Atlantic City Expressway.
