New Mexico law firm joins Arizona firm to create Jennings Haug Keleher McLeod - Albuquerque Business First - Albuquerque Business First
Two law firms in neighboring states are joining forces to expand their reach.
Albuquerque-based Keleher & McLeod and Phoenix-based Jennings Haug Cunningham LLP are now Jennings Haug Keleher McLeod LLP, they announced today.
“We have many similar practice areas. We also have some that are distinct and unique to each jurisdiction,” John Sinodis, managing partner of the Phoenix office and chairman for the new firm, told Albuquerque Business First. “But more than anything, I'd say that we just have a strong respect for each other.”

The merging of the two firms will allow them to grow their practice areas. While both firms already had a heavy focus on litigation, the Arizona office has more experience with environmental law and the New Mexico office with utility law.
Deron Knoner, managing partner with Jennings Haug Keleher McLeod's New Mexico office, said Keleher & McLeod previously represented Public Service Co. of New Mexico and currently represents New Mexico Gas Co. Both offices also have expertise with tribal law and financial law.
“The New Mexico office has a big presence with Indian law, Native American and tribal representation,” Knoner said. “Both firms, I would say, do complex commercial litigation of all types. And both firms are very strong in financial services — industries representing banks, credit unions, lenders of all types and doing various corporate work. So, it really is a matter of being a full-service law firm that does commercial work.”
The firm plans to explore new practice areas such as labor and employment, Sinodis said.
“The practice of law is evolving, and you have to be in a position where you can be responsive to your clients’ needs,” Sinodis said. “And that's a big part of why we chose to combine firms — so we can address our clients across a broad territory."
There will be no reduction in staff for Jennings Haug Keleher McLeod, Sinodis and Knoner said. The firm has already added four attorneys — two in Arizona and two in New Mexico — for a total of 38. The firm's attorneys have active licenses in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, California, Connecticut and Illinois.
