New tobacco and vape law takes effect Friday - WPEC

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A new law takes effect in Florida starting October 1. The law passed by the state legislature and signed by the Governor, raises the age to 21 to buy tobacco and vape products.
Advocates say the law is needed to make it more difficult for young people to get tobacco and vapes.
Under the new law, any store that sells tobacco products must post a conspicuous sign that states the following message: "The sale of tobacco products to persons under the age of 21 is against Florida law. Proof of age is required for purchase."
Violators could be charged with a second degree misdemeanor.

The Florida Dept. of Business and Professional Regulation will be responsible for enforcing the new law.
Two businesses in Palm Beach Gardens that sell tobacco and vapes say they're already checking ID's to make sure customers are at least 21, in what they say will avoid impact on their day to day business with the new law.
