Newton Falls nullifies deal, hires new law director - Warren Tribune Chronicle

NEWTON FALLS — A short-lived agreement to hire Robert Haydorn as Newton Falls law director was nullified Thursday during an emergency village council meeting.

Council subsequently hired Brad Bryan to the position by a unanimous vote, according to Second Ward Councilman John Baryak.

Haydorn, of Cuyahoga Falls, was hired Monday, likewise by a unanimous vote, to replace the previous law director, Joseph Fritz, who was fired by council in late 2021.

Newton Falls city manager Pam Priddy said the nullification of Haydorn’s contract was “due to unforeseen circumstances by both parties” and nothing malicious happened.

Haydorn was set to make $80,000 annually in the position. Bryan, who has about 32 years of experience, will earn $45,000 in his part-time capacity as law director. He will not receive benefits except the statutorily required contribution to the Public Employees Retirement System, according to Priddy.

Bryan is the law director of Peninsula and the Village of Northfield, and will continue in those positions while also serving in Newton Falls.

The village still is looking to fill the positions of finance director, village manager and police chief. Council last year terminated the contracts of former manager David Lynch and finance director Anna Musson and earlier this year terminated the contract of former police Chief Gene Fixler.
