Why did you decide to be a lawyer? I have always been intrigued and fascinated by trial attorneys. I wanted to find a career that I could be passionate about and practice getting better at forever.
What project/case/client has most influenced your career and why? I represented a lady who was hit head on by an 18 wheeler. She suffered horrible injuries including the loss of her vision. Seeing her worry about how she was going to take care of her children motivated me to help her in every possible way.
Who has been someone who has inspired your legal career (can be a real person or a fictional character)? Judge Jim Roberts of Tuscaloosa. He was my trial team coach in law school and I owe any skills I may have as a trial attorney to him and his coaching.
What's the biggest misconception people have about lawyers from TV shows/movies? The stress that handling cases has on the attorney. There are many sleepless nights that nobody sees.
What has been your greatest accomplishment so far in your legal career? Settling cases for clients that allow them to completely focus on their physical recovery instead of the financial burden that these catastrophic injuries can bring.
What's on top of your career bucket list? Arguing in front of the Supreme Court.
What's the hot topic in your practice area? Self-driving cars!
What's your favorite thing about being an attorney? The creativity that Plaintiff's lawyers are able to explore.
How has the Covid-19 pandemic impacted your practice area? The delay in pushing cases to jury trials. With Courts being closed and jury trials being continued, it has been hard to push cases they way they need to be.
What's your favorite legal TV show or movie? Matt Damon in The Rainmaker
If you could make any change to improve metro Birmingham, what would it be? I would love to see more public transportation. Light rails connecting parts of the Metro Birmingham area to surround areas would be fantastic.
