NMSP: Three agencies are investigating a shooting involving members of law enforcement - KOAT Albuquerque
CLINES CORNERS, N.M. —
Three agencies are investigating a shooting involving law enforcement that occurred 2 miles south of Clines Corners on Highway 285 Friday afternoon.
'The agencies involved in the incident are New Mexico State Police, Santa Fe County Sheriff and Torrance County Sheriff.
State police were alerted to a vehicle that fled Santa Fe after robbing reports of a Starbucks being robbed. No license plate was on the car. A man was driving the vehicle and a woman was also in the car, armed with a gun.
NMSP, SFCSO, and TCSO started in pursuit to catch the suspect and the female in the vehicle near Clines Corners. During the pursuit, the passenger in the suspects vehicle fired multiple shots at the deputies and officers in pursuit.
During the pursuit, a TCSO deputy, an SFCSO deputy, and an NMSP officer discharged their firearms at the suspect vehicle. The suspect left the roadway on HWY 285 and crashed into a tree.
The driver eventually crawled out through the driver's side of the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was airlifted to an area trauma center for gunshot wounds. His current condition is not known. The female passenger was found deceased in the vehicle. The Office of the Medical Investigator was called to the scene. OMI will determine the female’s cause of death as well as determine her identity.
Officials said no officers were injured but an NMSP officer involved was placed on standard administrative leave. His name will not be released until after interviews are complete.
