Northern Nevada Law Enforcement graduates complete six-mile 'Pride Run' - KRNV My News 4
Reno, Nev. (News 4 & FOX 11) — Thirty-seven recent graduates from the Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy completed their Pride Run Monday before being sworn in as officers.
The Pride Run started off at the Regional Public Safety Training Center and finished at the Hoff Memorial in Idlewild Park.
“This is to pay homage and respect to fallen law enforcement officers and this is a tradition that brings us together with the community and brings us together as a multi-agency effort," said Lieutenant Blaine Beard from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
The NNLEA started with a group of 48 recruits and 37 graduated from the program.
The run marks the culmination of 22 weeks of studies, 480 hours of post certified instruction, and more than 800 hours of law enforcement instruction.
News 4 asked Lieutenant Beard what advice he gives the recruits about serving as a law enforcement officer during a challenging time of social and political unrest.
He says, "Our community is extremely pro-law enforcement and in these times, its not always that way, but we are extremely lucky for our community for the support as evidenced by the support we had during the six mile run with many people from the community coming out with signs and cheering."
The recruits will receive their badges on Tuesday then report to their respective agencies for additional training.
