NY Consumer Protection Chief Jumps to Law Firm Quinn Emanuel - Bloomberg Law
Katherine Lemire has left the New York State Department of Financial Services for a partnership role at global law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, the firm announced Monday.
Lemire joins the law firm’s financial services litigation practice after her tenure as executive deputy superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services. She oversaw the consumer protection and financial enforcement division, leading a team of more than 170 attorneys launched in 2019 to police fraud and prevent financial crises.
Lemire oversaw an investigation of Deutsche Bank’s dealings with disgraced hedge fund manager and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to the Quinn Emanuel statement. The probe led to a $150 million fine. She also supervised regulatory action against Equifax after the 2017 consumer data breach, the law firm said.
Quinn Emanuel is a litigation powerhouse and among the 30 largest firms in the country by gross revenue. The firm in 2020 reported more than $1.3 million in gross revenue and nearly $4.7 million in average profits per partner, according to data compiled by the American Lawyer.
Before the DFS, Lemire was an Assistant United States Attorney in Manhattan and a prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
“I am excited to contribute my previously federal and state litigation experience and work with the Quinn Emanuel team,” Lemire, who joins as a partner in New York, said in the statement.
