NY Law Requiring Photographers to Work Same-Sex Weddings Valid - Bloomberg Law
A New York photographer can’t use her religious beliefs to avoid working at same-sex weddings, a federal court in New York said, upholding the state’s public accommodation law.
The New York Human Rights Law makes it unlawful for a business to discriminate against or advertise that it won’t provide services to a person on account of their sexual orientation.
Emilee Carpenter is a Christian who refuses to photograph same-sex weddings. She believes doing so will promote activities and express messages contrary to her beliefs. Carpenter also said that as a wedding photographer she participates in the wedding ceremonies.
