Oklahoma clinic sees influx of patients seeking abortion as Texas strict law goes into effect - KOCO Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY —
An Oklahoma women's clinic is filling up with patients from Texas looking for an abortion. This, after Texas’ new abortion law went into effect.
The Texas law bans abortions as early as six weeks, when a heartbeat is detected. We spoke to the Trust Women clinic and they told her that they saw this coming.
“We've been preparing for this for a while as best that we can,” Co-executive Director Rebecca Tong said.

In the few days before the Texas abortion law went into effect, the Trust Women clinic said they were scheduling nearly five times their normal number of patients.
“We know that we won’t be able to see everyone,” Tong said.
The clinic saw 11 patients from Texas in August. This month, there have been at least 110.
“If it was an ideal situation, I would say we could open the clinic 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and see as many people as we could. But that's not physically possible,” Tong said.
The clinic decided to cap appointments.
“It’s not something that we do lightly and we know what it means for people to be turned away from this service and it changes the direction and course of their life,” Tong said.
