Oklahoma law enforcement learns about explosives - KOCO Oklahoma City

EDMOND, Okla. —

Our Oklahoma law enforcement learned how explosives are made.

The FBI held a workshop on Thursday in case law enforcement has to stop an explosive from going off.

"The FBI being the lead agency in terrorism we train alongside our law enforcement bomb squad technicians in the use of homemade explosives," said Eric Larsen, of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Many homemade explosives are made out of basic household items.

"This week, we've trained them in recognition, rendering safe and the safety for the community when it comes to homemade explosives," Larsen said.

Then, they explode.

"We bring them out to the range and then we detonate those homemade explosive devices, so they see the impact," Larsen said.

Training is especially important for Oklahoma law enforcement agencies.

"We in Oklahoma are no strangers to the effect of a nefarious act or using homemade explosives to terrorize our state," Larsen said.

The FBI said the public can also play a part in keeping Oklahoma safe.

"The one request the FBI has is that if you see something suspicious that you report it to law enforcement or the FBI so that hopefully we can prevent the next attack," Larsen said.
