Oklahoma pushes for more women to join law enforcement - KOCO Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY —
Oklahoma is pushing for more women to join law enforcement across the state.
At 6 p.m. Tuesday, there was a virtual recruitment event. A panel of female officers from all across the city sat down to answer questions and share their experiences in law enforcement.
"As a whole, we have about 80% male agents and 20% female agents," said Rebecca Day, assistant special agent in charge.
These are statistics that officials are hoping to change.
"We really are better when we best represent the public that we serve," Day said.
It is all part of an effort to diversify agencies across the state.
"We are hoping to recruit more women and get more women excited about the field of law enforcement," Day said.
Federal, state and local representatives spoke at the event.
"As a whole, in the United States at every law enforcement level we have a lack of female officers and agents," Day said.
Their goal was to encourage women to join.
"We have many different career paths that people can take. We have analysts, forensic accountants, photographers, media reps," Day said.
