PAL Mentoring youth visit Tehama County law enforcement - Red Bluff Daily News

The Police Activities League, or PAL, Mentoring Program successfully had its annual Red Ribbon Week field trip Monday to all the law enforcement branches in Tehama County to deliver tokens of appreciation they made for every officer.
For the program organizers and participants, Red Ribbon Week is a time to honor local law enforcement and say thank you. The purpose of the program is to offer prevention through mentoring. A major component is trying to connect the youth with their community and local law enforcement.
“My goal is to create opportunities for our youth to interact with law enforcement on positive terms,” said Mentor Coordinator Dusty Jobe. “These opportunities allow for youth to build positive, healthy relationships with our police and help reduce the stigma of separation.”
For youth that have had traumatic or negative events in their past that led to interaction with law enforcement, this event allows them to create a new memory full of positivity, Jobe said. This gives them a chance to rewrite their story in regards to interaction with law enforcement. Overall, it’s a joyful experience for the kids and law enforcement.
This year the kids made nearly 200 calendars that had their autographs and pictures on them. The token of appreciation seemed to be well received by law enforcement officers, as the kids proudly pointed out their names.
“Every department was amazing, giving the youth a chance to engage and learn more about law enforcement,” Jobe said.
