PD: Man accused of stabbing sister, brother-in-law before being shot in leg by Cincinnati officer - WLWT Cincinnati

A man accused of stabbing his sister and brother in law before being shot in the leg by a Cincinnati police officer has been arrested, police said Friday

It happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday at an apartment complex on Lafueille Circle when officers got a 911 call from someone inside an apartment.

During a news conference Friday, police said the man, identified as Demetrius Baker, 43, was inside an apartment when he stabbed his sister and her husband in an ongoing family dispute.

Executive Assistant Police Chief Terri Theetge with Cincinnati police said the juvenile caller told them the suspect was her uncle and he was stabbing her parents.

When they arrived, Cincinnati police officers found Baker's brother in law suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.

He told officers his wife and daughter were still inside the apartment.

Officers then went up the stairs to the landing outside the apartment door which was slightly open.

The officers, identified as ordered Baker to drop the knife. That's when Baker's sister came out of the apartment and Baker ran out behind her.

One officer then deployed a taser and another officer shot one round, hitting Baker in the leg.

He was taken into custody and transferred to UC Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Theetge showed body camera footage of the incident, noting that the situation was quickly escalating. She said it was about 10 seconds between when officers first ordered Baker to drop the knife to when he ran out of the apartment and was shot.

Two knives were recovered at scene, a butcher knife and an 8-inch utility knife. Police said Baker brought the two knives to the apartment.

Baker has a history of arrests including felonious assault, domestic violence and assault on a law officer.

He has been charged with two counts of felonious assault.

The two stabbing victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Baker's sister, suffered a stabbing wound to her upper right arm and was treated at UC Medical Center.

Baker's brother in law suffered a stab wound to his abdomen and underwent surgery and was released from the hospital.

Police noted the Citizens Complaint Authority is also investigating the incident.

The two officers, Officer Maiya Malone and Sgt. Don Elsaesser have been placed on administrative leave per protocol.
