Plate carrier vests used by law enforcement recalled because ‘quick release’ may not work - PennLive
A brand of plate carrier vests used by police officers and first responders has been recalled because a cable in the quick-release system can detach and prevent “swift removal of the carrier in an emergency situation.”
More than 45,000 5.11 TacTec 56100 Plate Carriers have been recalled, according to an announcement with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to the announcement, the plate carriers are used by law enforcement professionals and first responders in combination with ballistic plates. They also are used for fitness and weight training in combination with non-ballistic plates. The carriers have “5.11″ molded onto a rubber label on the front of the carrier at the bottom left.

There have been reports of the cable in the quick release system separating from the handle on the carriers. No injuries have been reported.
People who have the carriers can contact 5.11 for a free replacement of the cable system.
The carriers were sold nationwide at 5.11 stores, Rogue Fitness, Galls, Kroll International, and other authorized fitness equipment, uniform and tactical supply retailers for law enforcement and public safety officers nationwide and online at www.511tactical.com and other websites from October 2020 through August 2021 for about $200.
